A simple solution

(I hated chemistry)

A few weeks back I asked some friends what they're doing to move small files or pass links around between their different devices. Nothing that anyone else was doing was really something that worked for me. In the past I've posted files and links into a private (1 person) discord server so that I can easily access my stuff from my devices. This isn't very sensible for sensitive documents and assuming all of this activity is being tracked by discord seems a given.

Instead, what I came up with was to simply share the stuff into my Tutanota email drafts (a built-in feature for lots of apps on mobile devices especially). I have a 1GB inbox which is more than enough; so far I've only ever really pushed files or links into it that are like sub 5MB at most, and then you can delete them once you're done. Since Tutanota encrypts your inbox, I can be fairly sure that I'm the only one able to see what I share there and since I pretty much always have immediate access to my account from my desktop, laptop and phone, I can easily move files and links around encrypted! Nice.

By the way, thanks to the maintainer of Glider for the nice app!

I hope this gives you some ideas for something similar yourself; whether that's to mimic my method with Tutanota (or some other encrypted inbox provider) or to just reuse something you already have that works for you. This is a little bit like the saying "if all you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail" but, gosh, if it doesn't make me smile every time I share something using it and it just works seamlessly...

So far, I haven't had any troubles with this method, nor any complaints. It works for what I've needed and I haven't ran into any complications or exceptions where I've needed anything else so I'm over the moon with it!

'Til next time.
